How to get buzz going for an online business?

How do I get buzz going for an online community so everyone talks about it? it is not a local site. It is a match site, such as match.com or monster.com. We match capital seekers and capital providers, just like job site matching job seekers and job providers, and personal site matching men and women.

How to get buzz going for an online business?
"If you build it, they will come" is not necessarily true on the Web. Putting a website up is one thing, but getting visitors to come to your site is another. The process becomes even more difficult if you have limited resources to market your business.

Here are some marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement - if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important -- and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more - that's additional traffic that you get for FREE!

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com's "Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day." http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/201...

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News. My website (see my profile) accepts free press release submission (no strings attached!)

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

For example, if you submit articles on my Getting Financing section of my site http://www.powerhomebiz.com/financing/fi... you will stand a great chance of reaching people who are looking for capital.

The above strategies are very simple to do, but they can bring in loads of traffic without spending too much. Of course, if you have the resources, you can also utilize pay per click strategies or other advertising mechanisms to reach your target audience.
Reply:Best bet is to get the site listed on all the search engines and directories. Here is a cheap one to start with: http://www.kahmer.com
Reply:Post your business card on this site for free. People will click through your site.
Reply:The reality is that the companies who market the best %26amp; the most are usually the ones to enjoy the biggest success - So it is very critical to advertise as much as possible.

While traditional Advertising can be expensive there are many classifieds websites on the Internet where you can advertise for free or cheap. I have used both free %26amp; paid advertising (like Google's Adwords) with some success some were good others were not as effective. A few people in the know also use this NEW secret website called http://efreelist.org - The offer Free classifieds and allow you to post world wide The reason people in the know like this site - http://efreelist.org is because:

1) It is 100% Totally FREE - There is Nothing to Buy, Sign or Join - No options, No upgrades, No Traps No BS - Just 100% Free!

2) They Allow you to post UNLIMITED FREE Ads Nation Wide %26amp; World Wide - No Restrictions.

3) Ads receive an tremendous response World Wide because of their huge traffic.

4) Once verified - The Ads are Instantly Turned on - No waiting period.

5) Even though I advertise one place their Java Script at http://efreelist.org picks it up and simultaneously posts my ad on 200+ different sites around the world - Again NO CHARGE!

6) There is No Annoying Ads or Banners.

7) They Allow me to post up to 4 Free Pictures %26amp; I can edit my Ads at any time.

8) I don't have to go through Registration crap - I hate giving my name %26amp; address etc.....

9) There are No Hidden Agenda's - Just Advertise %26amp; go

10) I NEVER receive any spam BS. - No bugging BS to advertise or to upgrade!

11) And the most important thing for me is there is - There is No BS or Monkey Business...

12) There is No Catch - %26amp; No Bait %26amp; Switch, Nothing to join nothing to buy nothing to sign or other bull crap.

I highly recommend checking into free classifieds of all kinds %26amp; http://efreelist.org - Best of Luck!
Reply:Creating buzz? What get's people excited about something? Generally, it's something that is in some way unusual or unique that will get people talking. What can you do to create this talking point or viral effect in your community? It could be anything but is usually best if it is related to your business of course.

I would suggest you look at the typical aspects of your business and your target community's business and then ask yourself what is the opposite or something that would grab attention? You should think "in the box" and then go outside it.

Many times something extreme grabs attention. An example, jewellers may create the most expensive ring or most ornate item to generate attention and a bakery can make the largest cake/pie or something to that effect. As a community providing match making services for capital sources and seekers what can you do that is largest, smallest, fastest, easiest, most or least in some way?

As mentioned above opposites also attract attention and can be a buzz generator. Take any aspect of your offering or relevant to the activities of people visiting your site and turn it upside down. Ask if you can incorporate it into your services or offering. It doesn't have to be long term, it can be a temporary event just to create the buzz you want.

Competitions can work too. Can you put together a competition that relates to your target community or your operation in some way? Perhaps you can offer to double the capital offered for the most popular capital seeker. Make it American Idol style and make it open to the public to vote. Have voters register with a valid email to restrict abuse. You probably need some other limitations or checks to ensure integrity of the promotion but it would be one way of creating buzz you want. The other thing with having people register with valid emails is you can follow up with some light marketing or keep them on a newsletter list. Don't just consider this, you can consider many different competitions - just whatever you feel will generate attention and get the market talking. If your resources are limited, you can offer to provide services for free or you can find related businesses that would also want to generate awareness with the same market and may be willing to be a sponsor of the promotion.

Just some ideas to help with your thinking.

Getting buzzed? :)

Any decent forums/online communities for my age group?

NO replies regarding "Adult," pornographic or dating sites please.

I'm 37 and myspace.com is geared toward teenagers and 20-year olds -- not my age group. I'm a mom, business owner, homeowner, etc. and interested in things that my age group deals with. I'm happily married so dating and singles websites don't pertain to me. I would just like to meet some platonic online friends who share the same interests.

Any decent forums/online communities for my age group?
It would be helpful if you listed more of your interests. A lot of forums focus towards one activity (but have general forums to chat about other thins as well) such as video game forums or computer forums.

I just found one called "SyberMoms"

http://sybermoms.com/forums/

Maybe you'll meet people you like there?

That's all I've got, but if you don't like SyberMoms, you can go here:

http://rankings.big-boards.com/?p=all

and see if you find anything you like =D.
Reply:You might want to join http://forums.grab2travel.com wher eyou can talk about everything Report It

Reply:you know, setting up a 360 on here wouldnt be bad, theres a huge pop of people your age to talk too, or if your more sewious go to google scholar forums, extremely informative and intelligent conversations there too, not like the crud you get here.
Reply:Have you actually tried MySpace?

I originally went on there to connect with my daughter's friends but have found many, many 30s and 40s (and up!) on there. My mom is on there as well now :-)

If you've already checked out MySpace and it wasn't your scene here's two sites that I used to visit regularly:

www.friendster.com

www.tribe.net

Of these two I prefer Tribe. It has a heavy bias toward the West Coast (esp. San Francisco) but I found lots of interesting people here in Atlanta on there as well.

Good luck!

How does poor grammar and syntax effect the Yahoo! questions community?

Here are some questions I found when answering questions today:

(cut and pasted for full effect)

Why was other blogs was friend on my blog but my blog wasn't not????

How can i keep a certain blog "entry" private or allowed only a certain category of friends to read?

Why deleting an email in yahoo list, the next will be opened and i MUST to Mark as Unread every time?

-----

These are horridly constructed sentences. What do these types of sentences tell us about this online community and, the values people place on cogent writing?

How does poor grammar and syntax effect the Yahoo! questions community?
I hate it when people use incorrect grammar on purpose!
Reply:I find the poor grammar and poor spelling, and using instant messaging speak makes some of the questions almost unreadable, therefore, unanswerable !
Reply:It affects we very bdaly.
Reply:I used to be a grammar-freak like yourself. However, when I spoke with an English major friend of mine, he informed me that the rules of grammar and spelling go out the door in chat rooms and for the most part in forums, etc. He said I would have to deal with the fact that I am now a part of the Internet culture where grammar rules are allowed to be relaxed.

Also, people don't have time to proof-read each sentence they write. Then there is all the abbreviations people use (WTF?, ROTLF, etc.).

He also reminded me that the Internet is for everyone. It was not intended for English-only speakers, so we shouldn't be offended when someone misspells a word or word choice isn't perfect.

While there is a place for grammar, its application as a finely applied science will never be within the Yahoo! questions community.
Reply:Me are not to knowingly!
Reply:Here is an example I saw at Yahoo Answers and a response I mailed to my cousins.....

"pretty much yeah you can even get pregnant not have

Here is another one:

Q: "What are your opinon on the shoe's Converse?"

My answer was:

"There are important and interesting items in the English language you may want to study up on. They are:

2] possession.

Let me give you some examples to duplicate your question.

a] "Are the zoo a place to see the stripe's Zebra?

b] "Why is Democrats always lack reasoning's sound?

c] "Do you knows this horsepower's car?

d] "I is going to eat this crust's pie.

There are some very nice English grammar handbooks, one of which is "The Scott, Foresman Handbook for Writers, Fourth Edition, by Maxine Hairston and John J. Ruskiewicz.

America has become an ignorant society because the standards we one had have been thrown out. Our school systems are pumping out morons like a factory. Foreign students will have all the jobs in future generations and the USA will degrade to a third world slum.
Reply:I can't answer for the community as a whole, but personally, I tend to ignore these questions as I find them too tiring to decipher. If this behavior is more or less standard practice, we will see a Darwinian tendency for these questions to disappear. The logic is twofold. The individuals formulating these questions will be discouraged from asking further questions as nobody responds, or they will clean up their act and check their questions before submitting.
Reply:Yes, the above passage could certainly be improved but you should also consider that English is not the first language of many people. If you're going to poke fun of the grammar mistakes someone has made, you should really make sure that your own is up to par. (see difference between effect and affect)
Reply:it shows the age group of people who get on here, the ignorance, and the lack of "care"...for lack of a better word. in my personal opinion, if you can't spell/use spell check and write a decent UNDERSTANDABLE sentence then you don't need to be on public forums
Reply:Bad grammar is my worst pet peeve. It's bad enough people can't speak English correctly, why oh why can't they at least edit it once they see it on the screen in front of them? It irritates me so much that I sometimes won't even answer questions that bad. (If I can even decipher them.)
Reply:It's affect, btw.

It makes one feel sad that so many people don't care how stupid they sound when they write like that.
Reply:I think it paints a picture perfect portrait of stupidity amongst the users.

By the way, you're not supposed to put a comma after a conjunction like you did in this sentence:

"These are horridly constructed sentences. What do these types of sentences tell us about this online community and, the values people place on cogent writing?"

And it's AFFECT not EFFECT.

How to spread the word about fibromyalgia social networking community?

My wife has suffered with fibromyalgia for almost two years. We have been to a lot of doctors who have prescribed pains killer, physical therapy, and even a mental health professional. She had become severely depressed. Currently she is under the care of a holistic doctor ( very expensive !! ) and her pain is at least manageable. I know that I can never understand or experience that kind of chronic pain and I see that sometime she feels very alone. With that in mind I have launched an online community for people touched by fibromyalgia to find each other, get connected, and share their experiences - triumphs and pain. The site (http://fibromyalgia.ning.com/) is free to register and use. Please take time to visit and spread the word.

Are there resources I can use to spread the word about the project?

There are many fibro support groups on line. I'm not sure how yours is different, but sometimes an online group will let you promote your group on their site. You have to contact the owner of the site %26amp; tell them how your site is different %26amp; how it would be an asset to their members. Good luck. You can find the support groups by going to yahoo groups %26amp; refining your choices through support, diseases, to fibro.

Playing (Oldschool) Dungeons & Dragons Online?

Does anyone know of a website or online community I can join to play old school Dungeons %26amp; Dragons?

And by old school I refer to sitting rolling dice and flicking through the rule books as opposed to the computer game versions.

Playing (Oldschool) Dungeons %26amp; Dragons Online?
Actually, D%26amp;D currently supports a lot of this, and will be supporting it even more with the release of 4th Edition next year.

Just go to www.playdnd.com - then click on the D%26amp;D message boards. Once you sign up go to the calendar section - there are some online games going on in there. Plus you can always network with others to play online.

When 4th edition comes out in the spring, Wizards of the Coast have announced that people will be able to play D%26amp;D online easier than ever before. They will create a virtual table top in which the DM can create his own dungeon, players can create their own miniatures, and you can play table top D%26amp;D online. While this may be too "video gamish" for some, it will not be a video game, but instead a way to play the pen and paper version on the computer.

4th edition is going to be so much more, however, and I truly believe it is going to be the best version of D%26amp;D yet. Possibly the best RPG yet (version 3.5 already came close).

Hope you find a game!

Mainstream Media claims the Ron Paul phenomenon is a "fake online campaign."?

I think the Ron Paul community should come together and create a Website showing the individual supporters so they can see for themselves how many we really are!

If they can log on and see real verified American people and their locations, it would shut down their little "attack" campaign.

http://www.infowars.com/articles/us/ron_...

The Rupert Murdoch media in the United States mostly pretends Ron Paul doesn't exist, or simply doesn't matter. As hard a myth that is to maintain, Murdoch is clearly backing Giuliani and Billary and no-one else for the White House in 2008.

It goes on to say:

A candidate for the US presidency is being buoyed by a massive online campaign that may be a fake grassroots movement organised by party staff.

How F-ing rediculous is that?

Is that all they have on this guy, speculations of a trumped up online community!

They have nothin on this guy!

His record speaks for itself!

Mainstream Media claims the Ron Paul phenomenon is a "fake online campaign."?
"First, they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. Then they attack you. Then you win." - Mahatma Gandhi

By the way, Gandhi is Ron Paul's hero.

Let them ignore Ron Paul, until they cannot ignore him anymore. ABC, MSNBC, and CNN have all been surprised by Ron Paul's 5 million dollar fund raising success. Even that smug bastard Stephenopolous had to agree that Ron Paul is a dark horse candidate. Watch and enjoy!

God help us if one of the media's so-called frontrunners make it.

Reply:Wow, the mainstream media actually got something right for once?
Reply:You guys just can't deal with reality can you? Every time someone disagrees with that loon you think everybody is out to get him. The paranoya has to stop. The media are reporting the truth. Try going out in the community and pick people at random and ask if they know about Ron Paul. Don't tell them anything or put thoughts or words in their minds or mouths. Most will say "who"? Some might mistake him for Ru Paul the cross dressing weirdo. He nearly came unglued at the "debate" the other night. If this is someone who we all should support than I am not so sure he should be President. Being President requires being cool especially in public.

Expecting a low level candidate that barely reaches 3% in poll after poll to be put on some pedistal and lauded as though he was the greatest thing since sliced bread is pushing things too far.

The media are into selling ads. People buy ads in papers and broadcast media that people actually listen to or read. Since time and space are limited it stands to reason the media are going to cover only those of real interest and who have a real chance. Some small blurb about the also-rans happens on a slow day but to expect major head lines or constant sound bites from a second or third tier candidate is expecting something that isn't going to happen. People don't want to pay for that.

I will admire the tenacity of the Ron Paul worshipers. They seem to push their candidate on the Internet ad nauseum. It actually ticks off more people than anything else.

What is wrong with people online.?

Maybe its just me but i find the online community consists of a few good people out their to help eachother and have fun and the other 99% that either want to pretend like they are tough and try to get you booted from servers for answering questions Or trying to force their moral objectives on you.

I don't know i am just getting sick of it i remember when you used to beable to play a good game online with other people looking for a good time help people out in forums and it was all cool. Then again that was back before cable was in everyones houses. God i long for those days

What is wrong with people online.?
I know what you mean, annoyed and I feel the same exact way. No longer can you go into a chat room because there are always spammers, haters and obscenity. They do not care what ages are in there and their entire time they spend online is worthless. You are right about the cable! I remember when you had to actually dial up to get online and when you did, your online time was precious because you might have an important call on the other line! Oh, well, we can only hope they will get mature and realize they are making fools of themselves.
Reply:Yeah, the internet was more fun when it was exclusive. Now everyone who doesn't even know how to use a computer is on the internet. I don't know how to fix it.
Reply:What you believe is what you recieve....you amplify your negative result by looking for it. There are many good people out there and many who are making their way..as they mature, experiment and grow! Namaste.

I remember the first person I chatted with, He seemed like a nice person, then after 1 minute of chat, he asked me If i fingered myself.LOL

I was pretty surprised, I didnt know people asked that kind of questions.
Reply:I think the problem is that online people can be anyone they want and hide behind their computer. As more people get online there will be more azzholes.
Reply:Seems to me that these days everyone wants DRAMA....Even online, this used to be a place where you could chat or even vent and everyone else was there to do the same thing, but now you have to be careful what you say even in a chat room....Maybe we need to invent a NO DRAMA chat room and INTERNET....lol Good luck trying to find the answer to this one, if you do let me know, better yet bottle it and make millions! Take care!

Does anyone Remember FireFly (the web community) ?

It was neat- kinda like myspace- with chat and graphics and little 'gatherings' all in an online community- and it just dissappeared... what happened to it? It was years ago... but i always wondered, but i can never find anything on it.

Does anyone Remember FireFly (the web community) ?
....

Webhound recommends just World Wide Web pages, but the same basic approach could help people find a variety of communities, products, and services that are likely to match their tastes. For example, Webhound grew out of the Helpful Online Music Recommendation Service (HOMR), which recommends musical artists. A subscriber to this service--recently renamed Firefly-- first rates a few dozen musical groups on a scale from "the best" to "pass the earplugs"; Firefly searches its database for people who have similar tastes, and uses their list of favorites to recommend other artists that might appeal to you. The same technique could recommend Usenet newsgroups, mailing lists, or other information sources. Tell it that you like to read the Usenet group "rec.arts.startrek.info," and it might recommend "alt.tv.babylon-5"--people who like one tend to like the other. While no such tool yet exists for Usenet, the concept would be straightforward to implement.

Does anyone know of an online source for makeup artists to upload your portfolio and make connections?

I am a makeup artist who is looking for an online community of people in the same industry as me, and also a place where I can place my portfolio online, so that people in my industry (models, photographers) can look me up and look up my work. I am just starting out as a makeup artist and need to make connections. Does anyone know a good site like that?

Take a look at Lookbook online. This site is the Go To for those in the industry. The actual book is over $100.00 but so worth it.

Intelligent online communities?

Anyone have any good links to forums / websites that you feel have a good community of reasonably intelligent people?

Intelligence is only as good as those who put a value on it.

If you have a specialised interest search for it and find a forum with like-minded people to discuss these issues with.

Mainstream Media claims the Ron Paul phenomenon is a "fake online campaign."?
i like ron and believe he would bring the power back to the people....

but i think americans are too stupid to think for themselves

and the elite would shoot him before he took their power and gave it back to the people...
Reply:Nathan from Johson City, NY along with about 20 of my friends and family support Ron Paul for his 2008 presidential bid, most of us are registered republicans, but none of us have gotten polled.

I'd love to get a website that shows his supporters.
Reply:wait till the 4th quarter Paul will hit over 10 million next quarter even though he doesnt need it to win. He will be there to the end. I can see it being very close anyone who denies it is simple naive.

He could very easily right now have 25% of the vote. break down the other 75% amoung the 7 war mongering neocons and Paul wins
Reply:Right on. And, RP's volunteers are ruining any credibility he might squander in his travels. So it goes. And who would he have in his cabinet, if he was lucky to win. Not. The country will never allow it, therefore the media feels safe in telling it like it is. Wake up.
Reply:I t is because those Media types and the people who spend their money on those Ads do not own Ron Paul. I truly hope this man gets elected. We would then have someone that has read the Constitution and represents the PEOPLE.

Can You Recommend a Fibromyalgia Online Support Group?

I have FM and I'd like to find a good online support group. I only want suggestions from people who actually have FM and are members of an online community. I don't want to sound rude, but I could 'Google' this just as easily as anyone else. I'd just prefer to have a recommendation from someone who understands what I'm going through. Thanks!

Can You Recommend a Fibromyalgia Online Support Group?
Hi Momma, I run a chronic pain support group and wed love to have you join us. Id say that most of us have chronic pain from fibro but also from other spinal disorders as well.

Let me know if youd like to join us.

Each of those is different but wonderfully supportive.

Reply:There are quite a few on line support groups out there. Try out these for a start; fibrohugs.com, immunesupport.com, fibrotalk.com, nfra.com, wearefmly.com. There are also some great Yahoo groups out there too.

Good luck! I hope this helps.
Reply:Hi Mama Loc's,

Rather than put a long message in here about fibro and all of this email me at poohinmissouri@yahoo.com, I own a totally free chat room that deals with diseases like fibro,ra,ms,lupus etc and you could come and talk to others with fibro about the problems they face everyday and the different pains they have everyday, and how they relive and deal with the pain, the chat is totally free and it will put you in touch with real people with this disease, and we also have a totally free message board with all types of different health infomation including a fibromyalgia message area so just email me for the link and we will be glad to help, the best time to find people in the chat room is in the evening hours but we try to have someone there at all times to chat with you, we look forward to hearing from you
Reply:I can recommend the following groups, it all really depends on what you are looking for in a group. The first one I'm recommending helped me a great deal. It has thousands of members and thousands of posts a month. So It may be overwhelming to some:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Fib...

This is another good one:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Fib...

This next one is an educational group that has kind of branched off into other disorders but the archives can be very helpful to those with fibromyalgia. Its not a discussion group its strictly medical education:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/FMS...

Yahoo has hundreds of fibromyalgia support groups. You may also want to check out this site. Its called the Wellness Train, it does have some spiritual content, so if that offends don't go there:

How can I get people to take my survey about online t-shirt design communities?

My friend is thinking about making an online design community kind of like threadless, but with extra copyright protection and royalties and stuff.

A research team at BYU made a survey for designers (and design appreciators) to take so he can figure out if it'll work.

He's giving away an Ipod to a lucky survey-taker, so there's a little more incentive for it.

The problem is that we are having a tough time getting "designers" to take the survey. Any suggestions?

Here's the link to survey::

It takes about 10 minutes to do.

How can I get people to take my survey about online t-shirt design communities?
I just tried to look at it , but my work must have it blocked. Maybe you could do it on Facebook or Myspace or something like that. Or a Blog site. I know they have tons of those.

Has Yahoo! Answers been successful in creating a joyful community?

My personal answer is YES. Dear folks, what are your personal views? If your answer is NO, then could you please give a suggestion or two (or more), so that the Answers team AND THE participating folk, can help remove deficiencies, if any, as viewed by anyone AND THUS CREATE A COMPLETELY JOYFUL COMMUNITY. Suggestions to deficiencies, if any, as viewed by anyone will be MOST WELCOME, if accompanied with suggested solutions. Otherwise too, dear wonderful folks, you are ALWAYS WELCOME, on YOUR unique forum, with all your friends and guests. After all has been said, and done for, it is ultimately OUR FORUM ! Here's to, one of THE MOST JOYFUL ONLINE COMMUNITIES IN THE WORLD!

Has Yahoo! Answers been successful in creating a joyful community?
Hi I think it is joyful when used in the right spirit of sharing ideas, experience and knowledge. I like the idea of there being a network of people out there to tap into. I dont like it when people answer rudely, with bad taste or just downright insulting! Im not sure how you could stop them though...
Reply:not really, as no one watches the answer team, who continually create screen names and give themselves best answers.

the "report" and violation" process is whatever they feel like at the time, and that's just not fair. If someone who works for yahoo answers doesn't' understand a question or an answer, they "violate" it. some of the obvious transgressions go untouched while anything that upsets the teenage answer team is banished.

no one watches the workers.
Reply:yes
Reply:I wish I shared your enthusiasm, unfortunately I agree with Mel. Too much cheating, by people with multiple accounts, too much spamming by people using this site to promote their chosen careers. Abuse of the no best answer button, as well as the thumbs downs that are given out randomly by people who don't even read the questions and answers properly.

Too many people trying to build their parts up and be 'yahoo leaders' when they're just ordinary users like the rest of us.

Too many cliques, too many categories being 'owned' by particular users and their friends. Which compounds the abuse of the no best answers and thumbs down problems

Too many changes being made almost on a weekly basis by yahoo, some that work, others that create more chaos and confusion.

The site is becoming too divided, it seems to belong to some members more than others, those that make most noise get most attention and I think the users that contribute the most are being driven away to other sites.
Reply:Why I think that we are all so close right now, that we could take warm showers together !
Reply:yes. we can exchange ideas and answers together and learn more.
Reply:why, yes it has! i'll elaborate on why when it's not 2 in the am.... :)
Reply:Yes I enjoy this very much grant there is some that abuse the guidelines but that is what the report abuse button is for but overall I would say that I enjoy the time I spend on here
Reply:yes... it does... we can share all our thoughts here and have 'fun"

I can't maintain online friendships. Why?

It's hard for me to continue posting to a livejournal or be actively involved in any type of online community. At some point I always feel ousted/rejected by the people I've come to consider "online friends." I'd rather just cut off all ties than try to mend these relationships, no matter how longstanding. I always feel as if there are some strange internet social networking protocols that I am unconsiously violating.

I can't maintain online friendships. Why?
Humans evolved to have friendships with people that we see every day, people we talk to face to face and hang out with. The Internet has only existed for a decade or so. It puts people in social situations that we have no prior experience with, trying to maintain relationships with people whom you may never even have actually seen.
Reply:I can't even maintain normal friendships...
Reply:it happens. try not to get too attached to the people you "meet" online. you never know if they are really who they present themselves to be... its so easy to lie or to put on a "persona" when you are online.

just have fun and take things light!!
Reply:Try to make real off line friends and learn what works and doesn't from them. If you want to keep trying on line as well then borrow from your "real world" experience.
Reply:online is not place for true friendship.

it is for fun, not for serious things.
Reply:If you don't have the time to interact on line. Maybe you have too many groups. Start one of your own,and invite the people you consider friends to join.
Reply:What you have is not friendship. It is a group of anonymous strangers. Please practice your social skills and make friends in the real world that you can be involved with online too. Those are the friendships that endure.
Reply:I disagree - online can be the place for friendships. You can make a connection with someone whether they are on the other side of the world or in your lounge room.

Perhaps its just easier for you to sever ties because you do not have to physically interact with these people. And thats ok too... Are these patterns evident in your other friendships?
Reply:Some day it will click for you.
Reply:When it cimes to online friendships you'll most likely stop talkin to that person because when most peolpe meet new people online they are usualy in different states and probple don't get on the computer as much to socialize with online friends because they may have lots of other frienda were they live.
Reply:don't fret this is a common thing.

i do the same exact thing.

i know many at work who suffer this also.

i can't explain it, maybe it's because this is so not tangible and we can't really see them or feel them so it's not real to us?

?

there's a number of explainations i know.

Any good made up (or real) names for a Web based community?

Hi,

I have brainstormed for two days but still am not satisfied with the results. Can I borrow your brains too?

I'd like to come up with an online community that is business related (startups, entrepreneurship). Preferrably the name should be short, easy (or intuitive) to spell and pronounce, and .com domian available for it.

Some key words I've been toying with:

From business point of view:

business

biz

works

entrepreneur

start

reach

From community point of view:

talk

point

central

net

network

topic

Other words welcome that have sense of community and not necessarily contain word business. Short, made up names are especially preferred.

Thanks a bunch!

Mike

Any good made up (or real) names for a Web based community?
How about ...

"The Boss Says.."

"We Mean Business"

"Money Talks"

"The Idea Center"

"Calling All Businesses"

Hope these help.

Hello there everybody im looking for some advice on how to get a domain name and get a forum running online?
http://www.site5.com

They have fantastico which make setting up a forum easy.
Reply:If you want to do all these things for zilch, you had better put your paint brushes away for a while. The guys here make it sound easy, but setting up the items you want will all take time and more experience than you openly admit to having. I run a free hosting service with all the stuff you need, but I couldn't spare you the attention you would need to get everything running properly. It's highly unlikely that you will sell paintings via an online store unless you're very well known and the paintings are cheap. I would strongly suggest that you start with a simple web page with photos of your work and encourage people to email you with comments or questions. As people won't be lining up at your doorstep for a while, you will be able to handle such queries quite easily. If you go for a CMS site, you could put the best emails up as news so that others can read them. Forums are only any good if you get hundreds of posts a week and that won't happen for a while. I say this because it takes a very long time for people to discover your site and trust it. I can help you set up a CMS site, but I can't help you design web pages or modify the site to suit your needs. If you need that level of help, you will have to pay someone or learn to do it yourself. There are many site designers out there who will be willing to help for a fee.

If you would like me to help you with a site, contact me via my profile.
Reply:Domains at Retail provides what you are looking for, but of course there is a learning curve. But no matter where you buy these products, it will take time for you to learn or for you to pay someone to do it for you.

1) To register your domain name, you go to:

http://www.domainsatretail.com/domainreg...

Pick any name you want, search if it is available. If it is add it to your shopping cart.

2) Domains at Retail has posted on their blog how to set up your own forum with a video action cast:

How to Create A Forum - http://www.domainsatretail.com/blog/2007...

This uses Web Site Tonight to create the forum, and with web site tonight you can choose templates and add your own content through an interface. No programming knowledge required.

3) Their "Quick Shopping Cart" software allows you to create a shopping cart with products, and has payment interface to do what you want to.

Take a look at Quick Shopping cart at:

http://www.domainsatretail.com/quickshop...

Read up on the products, see if its right for you but they have everything you need and 24x7 support to help you.

Good luck on setting everything up.
Reply:It looks like you want 3 things:

A good domain name

A discussion forum to interact with others

A shopping cart to sell your products

The discussion forum and shopping cart software are built into Fantastico, which is a software management system used inside cPanel, which many web hosts use. It makes managing your site much easier without having to know all the technical jargon.

Domain names can be purchased cheap, but be aware that the lower the cost, the less technical support you get and the more ads are pushed in your face. I use DirectNIC because they have no ads; the interface is clean, and the support is fast and friendly.

Online PC Gamer Comunity?? Help!?

Basically, I’m a hardcore PC Gamer, have been for years, and find it really difficult to find a good online community for PC Gaming.

One where you can make friends, start clans, play in leagues, tournaments and win prizes etc…

So I’ve started to build a website/forum, which will enable gamers from all over the globe to connect with each other and form a base for PC Gaming.

The site is called: www.FRAGTASTIC.org and my questions are:

-How is the best way to advertise www.FRAGTASTIC.org

-Where can I advertise for Admins/Moderators for www.FRAGTASTIC.org

Thanks in advance ! :)

Online PC Gamer Comunity?? Help!?
Go on gaming forums, (ask permission on site) get an account, And Advertise!

Say stuff like

"The Best Gaming Community/Clan Is now worldwide! goto

www._____________.org!"

Good sites to use are:

Runescape, Naruto Arena, Bungie.net
Reply:Try advertising in other pc gaming communities.

Try CAL, Xfire, pwned.com, etc.

If anything, put an image ad in your signature and make a few posts in their forums. And probably the best place to advertise for Admins/Moderators on your site would be on the site itself. Just make a hidden forum hidden to members with a certain amount of posts. Just to make sure they remain loyal ;P

Many of the people on the forums I only know by they online handle, but I still consider them friends. Lots of fun.

They have a fitness section. Check it out.

Reply:if you have Facebook.com, then type in "jacksonville jaguars fans", and that is a message board. in addition, during the season it allows you to talk smack to your opponents that week. it is pretty fun and addicting actually. keep in mind, this is something you add onto your facebook profile.

And join the Jacksonville Jaguars fans application...

You can Talk to just jaguars fans.... or when the season is going on.... There is a Game Central... Where the Jaguars and the team they are palying against fans can talk smack to each other for that entire week... its pretty sweet, I got it... Its probably the best i have found.

Online Ideas, how to help people who really need help ?

I don't have much time, Realy busy with Work, study and personal life, Yet I feel it's an obligation to help others, people who really need help, those people who no one hear or know about them, how to get to them . and how to help them, i am not talking about money donation, that's the easiest thing to do, it doesn't take a minute to give money, But I need to DO something also, Activities .

any Ideas how to give "current charity"

Current charity means something you can give but stay with people for long time, like teaching someone something that he can benefit from it his whole life, like a "source of income".

Also If there is muslim online community where I can contribute, I will be so happy to do so.

I can help any religion, color, sex too. We all breathing the same air.

Please help

Online Ideas, how to help people who really need help ?
Teaching is best idea. You may find street children. Teach them some jobs, and encourage them to take up jobs instead of begging. Follow them through out for some years, helping them, showing them way to life until they can earn something for themselves. then encourage them to save... teach them to help other same way how they got benefited from you.
Reply:Become a Personal Support Worker (P.S.W.) You will help people ( there are many) everyday for many needs they cannot take care of by themselves! You have to have the 'want' to help others, which is obviously what you have. Get into a P.S.W. or community service program Good Luck!
Reply:In the Drive Thru, pay for the food for the car behind you.

:D
Reply:Mam, you don't really want to help these people. What you want to do is do something for them yourself so you can feel good.

What's the right age range for online friends?

I'm 25. Usually when I make friends requests on MySpace, Yahoo! 360 or any other online community I keep them between an age range of 18-30 unless I know that person offline as well. However, on depressiontribe I have friends ranging from 16 to 47. Depressiontribe is like MySpace but only for people with depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental health issues. Since it's a more limited community I feel more comfortable expanding my age ranges. However, what would you consider a reasonable age spread? For a 25 year old is 18 an appropriate lower limit, or could I go lower? Or should I go higher? How about 30? Good upper limit? Or could I go higher? Should I stick to the 18-30 age range in all communities, even special interest ones? Note that I'm not interested in dating. Just friendly conversation and communicating with people from other parts of the world and different lifestyles than me. Thanks.

What's the right age range for online friends?
Friendship knows no age limits. Considering the purpose of the community where you have younger friends I would say that's fine. As long as the conversations don't get sexual you shouldn't have to worry. Just keep conversations PG-13.

We live in a messed up and untrusting world and I know that safety is important. But people have become a little paranoid.
Reply:In this day and age - stick with the adults - 18 + only!!!!
Reply:right age for online friends is 16and +

A good online free reference/general education website?

I've come to the conclusion that I slept through my K-12 education and though I know more than most I'd like to have a thorough understanding of the liberal arts. If anyone knows of a good online/free resource they frequent I'd like to know. An online community helps too.

Thanks.

Playstation 2 online requirements?
All you need is an ethernet cable or a phone cable. Can I assume that you already have a cable modem or router? Better if you have a router. Makes setting it up easier.

Can u suggest some good and cheap community colleges in north carolina for nursing not online colleges?

is it that i can do associates for two years and then transfer to a university to get RN degree?

Can u suggest some good and cheap community colleges in north carolina for nursing not online colleges?
I am not sure where in North Carolina you are located (or want to be located), but check into Cape Fear Community College's nursing program. (CFCC is located in Wilmington, NC.) I hear that it is a great program and the students are successful. Good luck! :)
Reply:There are many great community colleges in NC for nursing that are not online. The cost of community college education in NC is set by the legislature, so they all cost exactly the same! You can get an associates degree in nursing in two years at a community college, and many 4 yr. colleges in NC also have an RN to BSN degree program to go from RN to BSN. The question is whether you want an RN or a BSN, and where you want to go to college.

What online game?

What online game shall I play. I love the idea of an online community where you can wonder around a large world, visit villages etc and meet people. Maybe even build your own house, make friends and go on quests together.

My computer isn't the fastest though. Only 1Ghz Processor, standard everything else. I don't want anything super advanced, just a bit of fun. Thank you

What online game?
If I were you, try Runescape! I'm a long-term member there! With a monthly fee of $5, everything that you desire (large world, visit villages, make friends, build a house, etc.) can be yours. Or if you're strapped on cash, you can play for free. You just don't get that many things to do, or land to explore. MapleStory is also a great choice. Everything's there, except the right to build a house. And it's free! You don't a fast computer to play it, just fast enough. If you wish to sign up for either of these options, go to the links below! (Note: for the 2nd link, you don't have to sign in to the website before playing the game).

I think the best you could do is probably *cringe* Runescape.
