How would you define a good online comminity e.g. Youtube, facebook, friendster and etc today?

Today, most of the people like to join online community for information seeking or exchange, entertainment or even making friends. What kind of features on the online community will make you feel that it is a good one to join? For example, the usefulness of the content or any other motivations.

How would you define a good online comminity e.g. Youtube, facebook, friendster and etc today?
Why does this question feel like an essay topic for a communications class? Oh well, I'll answer anyway lol...

I think most people join online communities to keep in touch with friends and perhaps find new ones. The fun in finding people you haven't spoken to in a while, as well as seeing what they're up to is a huge draw, plus the fact that they're only a click away. It makes people feel connected, even if physically they are miles apart. True, phones used to be the way to communicate over distance, but now with computers and the internet, people can instantly see pictures and video of each other -- even more interaction, even if it's not in person/face to face.

Having said that, features that make a good online community should focus on definitely pictures and video capabilites. Blogs or notes for people to write to each other is essential too. As long as people are able to communicate what they want to who they want, that community serves it's purpose.

Alright dude, take my words, and get that A on your essay!
